Speech & Debate info meeting

Are you thinking about next year?

Are you concerned about world events?
Do you want to be able to impact this world for Christ?
Does your family place a value on critical thinking about current issues?
Does the thought of speaking in front of a group cause your mouth to go dry and your knees to quake?
Do you love to talk and just seem to have trouble stopping?

If you answered yes to any one of the above questions, then speech and debate is for you!!  Next year is right around the corner.  With that in mind, we'd like to cordially invite you to a preview night for our speech and debate club meeting in Smyrna.  The meeting will cover the following topics:

  • Cost
  • Satellite/Research Groups based on geographical area
  • Fundraisers
  • Class structure
  • Types of debate/speech taught
  • Demonstrations of speech and debate events by current students
Speech and debate enables young people to learn to think critically about a wide range of topics while developing confidence in their ability to articulate their opinions to a wide audience.  Academically, students learn to make sense of the knowledge they are gleaning from their classes and apply it to discussions of real world events.  Spiritually, they are taught to focus on the fact that they are learning skills in order to be a witness for Christ in a fallen and confused world. Socially, they have the opportunity to associate with other like-minded students who will exhort and encourage them.

Now that we have your attention and you are totally sold on the benefits of this activity, here are the details on how you can get more information on joining this sophisticated and attractive group of people:

When:   Tuesday, May 8 - 6:30-8:00 pm

Where:    Abiding Faith Lutheran Church 10411 Old Nashville Hwy. Smyrna, TN 37167

Who:       Students and parents who wish to learn about what we do.  Students ages 12 and up will have the opportunity to do both speech and debate.  Students younger than 12 can participate in speech events.
